BSC Young Boys, commonly known as Young Boys, is a Swiss football club based in Bern. The club was founded in 1898 by four students—Max Schwab, Hermann Bauer, Franz Kehrli, and Oskar Schwab. The name Young Boys was inspired by the English club Old Boys FC. Young Boys won their first Swiss championship in 1903 and quickly became one of the country’s dominant teams. They secured multiple league titles in the early 1900s, establishing themselves as a force in Swiss football.
After World War II, Young Boys struggled but regained their strength in the 1950s, winning four consecutive Swiss championships from 1957 to 1960. This era was marked by the leadership of coach Albert Sing and star players like Eugen Meier.
City finally found their equalizer early in the second half. A slick passing move unlocked Liverpool’s defense, leading to a composed finish that sent the Etihad into celebration. With the score level, the game became an end-to-end thriller, with both sides creating chances and forcing outstanding saves from the goalkeepers.
In 1958–59, Young Boys reached the European Cup semifinals, their best performance in international competition. They were eliminated by Stade de Reims. The club experienced a decline in the late 20th century but rebounded in the 2010s.
Under Gerardo Seoane, Young Boys won the Swiss Super League in 2018, ending a 32-year title drought.
